What is healthy eating actually

It is nothing new, that for healthy living and weight loss, good nutrition and healthy eating are essential. But being curious as I am, I thought of checking as to really how many are really conscious of what it means to eat nutritious and healthy food. I asked a few of my friends without telling them that I was subjecting them to a survey of sorts. Remember, each one of them knows all too well what he or she is talking. Here are the interesting answers I got from them.

Healthy eating means

1. Healthy eating means eating a large assortment of nutritious foods from all of the food groups.
2. Healthy eating means healthy living.
3. I love great food and good health and both of which came about after years of ill health followed by a diagnosis of a chronic disease.
4. Healthy eating means eating when you are hungry, and eating till you are satisfied; eating three meals or several small meals/snacks a day; overeating and under eating at times is not healthy eating.
5. Healthy eating means the freedom to choose the food you like, eat for pleasure, eat for nourishment, but eat in moderation.
6. Healthy eating means eating more grains, fruits, and vegetables, and less meat, sweets, and fats every day.
7. Healthy eating means eating a variety of foods that give you the nutrients you need to maintain your health.

Let me tell you at the outset, that while many of these answers are near about being correct, they are still not spot-on. We have a need to accept that eating healthy doesn’t just end at eating good food. The daily nutrients and calorie charts vary for each individual depending on her requirements. For example, an athlete and a sedentary person have different requirements of nutrients and calories as they burn up different amounts of them. It also depends on other important factors like your age and body mass index etc.
